The term athleisure has made recent waves in the fashion arena. Unfortunately, that concept does not pertain to designer M. Diggs’s fashion line. Fresh off his involvement with The Colored Girl Campaign, Diggs blessed us with creations from his recent Spring Summer 17 Presentation. His collection contained the usual elements that comes with street-wear such as sheer, varsity jackets, hoodies and joggers. The collection’s elements makes for a perfect love story between sports wear and elegance. Diggs continues to beautifully blur the lines between athleticism with sophistication: elegantly draped silhouettes paired with distressed denim, mesh hoodies draped over tailored culottes, body hugging dress adorned by a simple varsity jacket, subtly eye catching graphics. The looks overall showcased the fluidity that street-wear can possess when executed perfectly.
Pasts collections show Diggs ability to integrate a common theme in fashion, street-wear, with futuristic details and elegance. Who knew the Japanese style of a kimono and obi could ever be associated with sporty looks or obnoxious brooches adorning a sequined sports jacket? Additionally, his mastery in layering makes us anxious for the fall season. Think thin long, sheer tops under a short, over-sized sweater styled with distressed jeans and low top sneakers. We are coveting Diggs’s sequined varsity jacket, over-sized splatter paint vest, white sheer hoodie and high-low draped blouse. Where street-wear usually highlights roughness and edginess, Diggs’s added fluidity and worldliness is making us anxious for more.
